The UK COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND HEALTH (UKCBH) is committed to providing a secure and supportive environment for all students, staff, and visitors. This policy sets out the framework through which the College meets its statutory obligations under the Children and Families Act 2014, the Care Act 2014, and the Education Act 2002.
This policy applies to all registered students, including those studying remotely, staff members (permanent and contracted), governors, and external partners. It covers college-sanched events, campus activities, and digital interactions within the UKCBH community.
UKCBH recognizes that abuse and neglect can take many forms. Our staff are trained to identify indicators of:
Under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, UKCBH has a statutory duty to have "due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism."
3.1 Radicalisation Risk: We monitor for signs of vulnerability to extremist ideologies, whether political, religious, or social. This includes monitoring sudden changes in behavior, withdrawal from social groups, or the sharing of extremist materials.
3.2 Freedom of Speech: While we promote open debate, the College will not provide a platform for speakers who incite hatred or violence. All external speakers must be vetted through our External Speaker Policy.
As education moves increasingly online, UKCBH implements strict digital safety protocols:
UKCBH maintains a zero-tolerance approach to abuse between students. This includes "banter" that crosses the line into harassment, sexualized comments, non-consensual image sharing (upskirting), and physical intimidation. We recognize that peer-on-peer abuse can happen regardless of gender or age.
If a student discloses a safeguarding concern, staff are instructed to follow the "5 R's":
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1. Receive | Listen actively and stay calm. Do not promise absolute secrecy. |
| 2. Reassure | Tell the student they did the right thing by coming forward. |
| 3. Respond | Only ask clarifying questions; do not investigate. |
| 4. Record | Document the disclosure using the student’s own words. |
| 5. Report | Immediately contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). |
While we respect the privacy of our students, safeguarding is an exception to General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). We may share information with Local Authority Designated Officers (LADO), the Police, or Social Services if we believe a student or another person is at risk of significant harm.
